45 minutes southwest of Amarillo, Texas, is the pet food company Merrick Pet Care, founded in 1988 by Garth Merrick. With a five-star commitment to nutrition, Merrick dog food contains high-quality meats without any preservatives or fillers. Merrick also works to give back to the community by partnering with K9 for Warriors, a non-profit dedicated to providing service dogs to military veterans free of charge.

When Tama Schiller rescued SmittyMitts, a senior Pekingese dog with renal failure, she quickly began looking for treats the little guy could enjoy with all his health issues. Thus was the start of SmittyMitts, the company. Founded in 2019 in Magnolia, Texas, 45 minutes northwest of Houston, SmittyMitts is focused on creating healthy dog treats with no chemicals or artificial preservatives and handmade dog decor. SmittyMitts honors the late Pekingese by donating a portion of every purchase to dog rescues around Texas.

SmittyMitts plain dog biscuits are made without corn or soy. These treats come in sizes small, medium, or large, so they are sure to be enjoyed by dogs of all sizes.

Dog Treats Made in San Antonio, Texas

Established in 2015 at Fort Gordon in Augusta, GA, Lola D’s Dog Treats quickly found its way to another military base in San Antonio, Texas. Founded by a military spouse, Lola D’s Dog Treats is named after the family’s two taste testers, dogs Lilo and Nala. Lilo’s allergies were the inspiration behind these handmade dog treats.

The Banana Blueberry Turkey Bacon Dog Treats are one of Lilo’s favorites.
